This course is part of the Master of Arts in Political Science offered by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University.
This course explores the intellectual foundations of political philosophy from the ancient Greek world to medieval Christian thought. It examines how political ideas emerged, evolved, and responded to changing historical conditions from the Greek city-state to the universal Church and eventually toward the emergence of the modern state. Western political thought is not merely historical reflection. It is the conceptual backbone of modern political science, shaping ideas of justice, state, citizenship, sovereignty, and law. From Plato’s Ideal State to Rawls’ theory of justice, Western political thinkers have attempted to answer these enduring questions.
